French Open Qualifying for 16-year-old

Larcher

16-year-old Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal reached a milestone today by qualifying for her first Grand Slam Main Draw at the 2009 French Open.

This was Michelle's first time playing in the professional event at Roland Garros after reaching the Quarter-finals of the Junior event in 2007 at the age of 14.

Michelle clinched her spot amongst the top in the world by defeating Ekaterina Ivanova of Russia 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, her third straight three set battle in Qualifying.

The youngster who lives and trains in Florida rose from a year-end ranking of 312 in 2007 to 124 last season. She made her Liverpool debut in 2008 and will be looking to put in a good performance on clay in Paris before her return to Calderstones next month.
