Robin Soderling stunned world number one Rafael Nadal at the French Open, dumping the reigning champion out in the fourth round.

Nadal, unbeaten at Roland Garros for 31 matches, and bidding for his fifth straight French Open title lost 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

But this result, which shocked the tennis world, is no surprise to Liverpool Tennis Director Anders Borg; "We knew Robin would do something in Paris," said Anders.

"He'd beaten Nadal 6-1, 6-0 in Rome last month and is yet another of the rising stars to come to Calderstones Park.

"Despite being ranked 25th in the World many Liverpool spectators may not have heard much about Robin, but this victory over Nadal will have made everyone sit up and take notice."

The 24-year-old, who arrives on Merseyside for the 8th Tradition I-CAP Liverpool International Tennis Tournament next month, was delighted with his win over Nadal; "I told myself this is just another match, all the time, I was trying to play as if it was a training session. When I was 4-1 up in the (fourth set) tie-break, I started to believe."

He now faces Tommy Haas in his first ever Grand Slam Quarter Final.

Robin's success is testament to the Liverpool tradition of spotting new talent. "In the past we've brought Novak Djokovic, Ivan Ljubicic and Jamie Murray to Calderstones Park before they made the break through on the world stage," added Anders.

"Djokovic won the Australian Open last year, Jamie won the doubles at Wimbledon in 2007 and Ljubicic has been world No. 3. We pride ourselves on finding new talent and bringing them to Liverpool."
