TRAVEL INFORMATION

BY PLANE

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is just 8 miles from the City Centre. There are regular scheduled flights from Belfast and Dublin and Cork, Isle of Man, Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Geneva, Madrid, Nice, Paris, Palma and Malaga. Merseytravel operate a regular low cost bus service into the City Centre seven days a week and taxis are also available.

Manchester Airport offers an International gateway from all parts of the world. There is a rail link from Manchester Airport directly into Liverpool City Centre (journey time 1 ½ hours. There are regular shuttle flights into Manchester from Britain's other major airports including Gatwick and Heathrow).

BY TRAIN

Liverpool Lime Street station is the city's main railway station located in the northeast of the city centre. Intercity services run from major towns and cities into Liverpool Lime Street Station. Journey times from London to Liverpool just over 2.5 hours. Links are also available to other parts of Merseyside.

Virgin Trains (tel: 08457 222 333) operate numerous services to Liverpool including a fast service from London using the new tilting Pendolino trains capable of speeds of up to 125mph.

Other rail operators running services to Liverpool include Arriva Trains (tel: 08709 000 773), Central Trains (tel: 0121 634 2040) and First Great Western (tel: 0845 7000 125 ).

BY ROAD

Details on entering into Liverpool from the direction of the West Midlands

  • Merge onto M6 via exit number 6- on the left- toward THE NORTH WEST/M5/THE SOUTH WEST/M1/LONDON/M40/M42.
  • Merge onto M62 via exit number 21A- on the left- toward LIVERPOOL/M57/SOUTHPORT.
  • M62 becomes BOWRING PARK ROAD/A5080.
  • Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto THE ROCKET.
  • Merge onto QUEENS DRIVE WAVERTREE/A5058.
  • Enter next roundabout and take 3rd exit onto A5058.
  • Enter next roundabout and take 1st exit onto MENLOVE AVENUE/A562.
  • Turn RIGHT onto CROMPTONS LANE.
  • Turn LEFT onto CALDERSTONES ROAD.
  • Turn RIGHT. And you have arrived at Calderstones Park!

BY BUS

Liverpool City Centre has two major bus stations - Paradise Street Bus Station and the Queen Square Bus Station. Other main bus stops can be found at Victoria Street, Sir Thomas Street, London Road and Renshaw Street.

BY TAXI

There are plenty of Hackney Cabs (or Black Cabs) operating in Liverpool, especially in the City Centre. You can either hail a passing Hackney cab or you can go to one of the City Centre's Taxi ranks.

The Hackney Cab ranks are located at Lime Street Station, James Street Station, Adelphi Hotel, Whitechapel, Sir Thomas Street and Chinatown.

There are a number of private hire taxi firms that operate across the city. Unlike Hackney cabs, you cannot hail and be picked up by a passing private hire taxi - this is illegal.

BY FERRY

Liverpool ferry port is one of the UK's major Ports & covers both banks of the River Mersey, both in Liverpool and Birkenhead. Liverpool bound passenger ferries are operated by P&O Irish Sea, Norfolkline Irish Sea and Steam Packet Company. Ferry arrivals from the Isle of Man and Dublin dock at the terminals just north of Pier Head, close to Albert Dock while the Liverpool Belfast Ferry docks at Norfolkline Irish Sea ferry services terminal.
